The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director, Products and Services to join our team in Calgary. This role is pivotal in driving our strategic initiatives in small business and specialty tax, managing our financial services portfolio, including one of the largest prepaid credit card programs in Canada, and driving new product development.

This position is based in Calgary and offers a hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in-office.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement product and service strategies that align with H&R Block’s strategic business plan including revenue and profitability growth.
  • Lead a cross-functional team to drive strategic initiatives and ensure successful product launches.
  • Ensure product management strategies are aligned with strategic initiatives and focus on delivering high-value products to H&R Block clients.

Product Development

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on financial services within the Company, with a particular focus on managing, delivering, and monetizing the Instant Refund and Pay With Refund card programs.
  • Manage product profit and loss statements making informed decisions to improve our financial situation.
  • Champion innovation by combining functional and operational knowledge with thorough analysis of industry/technology trends, customer trends, and competitive analysis.
  • Manage the product life cycle, including gathering and creating product requirements, introducing new features and functionality, retiring outdated or redundant features, and providing product support for product launches.
  • Ensure products meet product launch success criteria and manage product financials and development budgets.
  • Document and maintain a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape, emerging technology, and applications.

Revenue Growth

  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities to monetize products and services, enhancing client value and driving revenue.
  • Utilize market analysis and client feedback to continuously improve product offerings and expand the client base.
  • Lead the team in optimizing go-to-market packaging and features.

Client Focus

  • Ensure that all products and services deliver exceptional value to our clients, enhancing their experience with H&R Block.
  • Maintain a client-centric approach, incorporating client feedback into the product development process.

Team Leadership

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and support to your team to ensure high productivity.
  • Support team members’ career growth and personal development.
  • Develop and maintain cross-functional teams and relationships to deliver transformative solutions that enable and impact all associates.

Partnerships

  • Work with third-party companies/vendors to assess partnership opportunities and manage such relationships as required.
  • Highly collaborative work style with the ability to positively negotiate, influence others, and maintain effective business relationships.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA would be an asset.
  • 15+ years of product experience in Financial Services, eCommerce, Retail, or Software.
  • 10+ years of leadership and strategy experience.
  • Demonstrated success in bringing new products to market.
  • A strong understanding of the financial services industry and management of a card program.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to get things done independently.
  • Exceptional strategic and analytical thinking abilities coupled with strong communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a team of product managers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building strategies and presenting them to executives.
  • Innovative and creative with the ability to identify and develop business opportunities.
  • Proven record of establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in understanding and reporting financial results.
  • Ability to make quick, timely decisions based on data.
  • Ability to be an effective leader in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
