The Opportunity:

Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Procurement Lead is an important role at H&R Block Canada, focused driving effective vendor negotiations and the efficient acquisition of goods and services within a large-scale retail environment. This position is crucial in maintaining cost efficiency, ensuring quality, and timely delivery of materials and services to our retail locations across Canada. The Procurement Lead will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a dynamic retail environment to align procurement activities with the organization's operational goals, foster robust supplier relationships, cost management and ensure compliance with all relevant procurement and sourcing policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Supplier Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiating favorable terms and conditions.
  • Monitor Supplier performance and address any issues to ensure continuous supply and quality of goods and services HRB receives.

Inventory Control & Coordination:

  • Develop and implement inventory control systems to track supply levels.
  • Coordinate with District Managers and Regional Directors to forecast supply demand and adjust procurement plans accordingly.
  • Optimize inventory levels to balance cost and availability.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods and services to support retail operations.

Market Research & Compliance/Risk Management:

  • Conduct market research to stay informed of industry trends and pricing dynamics.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement and sourcing policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards in procurement practices.
  • Assess and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions and quality issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and changes in regulations.

Budget Management/Contract Management:

  • Prepare and manage procurement budgets and reports.
  • Conduct cost analysis and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
  • Negotiate and review all procurement contracts, ensuring all terms and conditions are in order and favorable for HRB Canada.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze procurement data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and areas for cost reduction.
  • Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, performance metrics, and savings achieved.

Order Processing:

  • Oversee the preparation and processing of purchase orders and requisitions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order placement and delivery.
  • Resolve any discrepancies or issues related to orders, deliveries, and invoices.

Team Leadership:

  • Oversee and mentor one Procurement Coordinator, providing guidance and support.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and identify development opportunities for team member.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience within Procurement Lead roles is preferred.
  • Proven experience in procurement, with a strong emphasis on vendor negotiations within a large retail environment.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
